The focus of the Bsc (hons)in Advanced Professional Practice is professional practice and health and social care in a modular system, which enables students to pursue their personal and professional interests. The programme is intended to develop practitioners who are effective in their own field nursing practice and aims to prepare practitioners for the expanding clinical and non - roles within health and social care. The content of the programmes therefore addresses a wide range of professional and health and social care issues, which are of interest and concern to nurses. It provides a wide range of accredited modules to facilitate individualised learning and equip practitioners to play a key role in leading and influencing change within practice.
Students on this course are required to gain 120 credits at Level 3 (H) including two compulsory modules.
Programme aims:
This programme is intended to develop informed and critical practitioners who are effective in their own field of advanced nursing practice. Continuing personal and professional development will be promoted to enable students to attain higher level skills and knowledge required for the provision of quality care of individuals, families and communities.
As potential leaders in professional practice, students will be provided with the knowledge and skills to enable them to initiate change and respond to a community and user/carer led nursing service (DOH 2004).

This is normally expected to equate with 120 credits at level 2 (diploma level). Completion of an academic essay will be required on submission of the application form. All eligible candidates will be invited to attend for interview. Candidates should provide evidence of professional development and this is essential for candidates seeking advanced standing exemptions.

Prerequisite Courses:
Applicants must have completed the following prerequisites at the time of application to the program. All prerequisite classes must be taken within four years of starting the Practical Nursing program. Applicants must have a minimum grade of a 2.3 in each course to be eligible to apply. For the following prerequisites, students will only be able to repeat one course from the list one time. The repeat must include all withdrawals as well as grades below 2.3 and include all colleges attended. The only exception is: when attempting to improve the Nelson Denny reading scores through reading courses.

Students wishing to apply for admission to the College of Nursing must follow the following admissions process. The admissions process requires application both to the University and to the College of Nursing.
Admission to the University
1. Automatic or regular unconditional admission into the university as defined in the University Undergraduate Catalog. The acceptance letter for enrollment in the university does not automatically qualify students for acceptance in the nursing program.
2. Satisfy all sections of THEA (Texas Higher Education Assessment) or an equivalent test by achieving the scores as illustrated or be exempt as described below:

at Wilkes University is to prepare advanced practice nurses in the role of Clinical Nurse Specialist with a focus in either gerontological nursing or psychiatric mental health nursing. This multidisciplinary program provides a foundation for doctoral study in nursing and continued professional development.
Graduates of the program are eligible to write the certification examination for clinical nurse specialist by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) upon completion of the requirements.
