Class size is limited and all applicants may not be ac-cepted into the program. Contact the program office at the desired site for information.
Applications are available April 30 of each year. Inter-ested individuals are encouraged to seek an advisor at their site early in order to ensure that all prerequisite courses are completed in a timely fashion.
Applications must be received by June 15 to be consid-ered for admission.

Arkansas State University-Newport is pleased to offer certified nurses aide
classes on the campus of Arkansas State University-Newport and Arkansas
State University Technical Center in Jonesboro and selected high school campuses.
This course teaches the basics of physical care for the client. Upon successful
completion of this course plus additional required on-the-job training, a
student can become a certified nurse assistant in the state of Arkansas. The
program consists of 105 hours of classroom and clinical experience. Earn 7 college
credit hours while training for a job in high demand. A technical certificate is
awarded with successful completion.

The Associate of Applied Science degree in Nursing is designed to prepare graduates to apply for the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) and to function as Registered Nurses. At the associate degree level, emphasis is placed on providing and managing direct care to individuals with common well defined problems. The associate degree graduate functions as a team member using nursing diagnoses and established protocols for individuals in acute care and community based settings. Additionally, the graduate participates as a member of the profession in appropriate specialty and politically focused nursing organizations.

The CNS track requires 39 hours of planned sequential graduate nursing course work. The NP track requires 39-47 hours of planned sequential graduate nursing course work. Students must also complete a Comprehensive Exam in the last semester of course work.
