The Associate Degree Nursing curriculum provides individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide nursing care to clients and groups of clients throughout the lifespan in a variety of settings.

Courses will include content related to the nurse’s role as provider of nursing care, as manager of care, as member of the discipline of nursing, and as a member of the interdisciplinary team.

BSN Degree Requirements at Queens College North Carolina

In addition to completing all courses prerequisite to the major and the nursing curriculum, candidates for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree must fulfill all of the graduation requirement for the college of admission (either College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) or Hayworth College (HC).

SECOND DEGREE CANDIDATES

Effective October 8, 2008, a student who has earned a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited university and who has been admitted to pursue a second bachelors degree from Queens University of Charlotte is not required to complete the General Education requirements of Queens University of Charlotte. However, a second degree candidate must meet the university’s residency requirements and all requirements for the major leading to the second degree.

LPN BSN at Briar Cliff College

The Department of Nursing offers a three or four year program for Licensed Practical Nurses, leading to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree and eligibility to take the required R.N. licensure examination (NCLEX-RN). This option represents an opportunity for a broad-based liberal education and a strong base for professional nursing practice. Theoretical nursing knowledge is applied in a variety of practice settings, including hospitals, community health agencies, long-term care facilities and other institutional and community based settings.

This innovative program is designed specifically for graduates of state approved Practical Nursing programs. Students must present evidence of a license to practice nursing in Iowa as an LPN or a state in the interstate compact and of professional liability insurance currently in force in order to enroll in nursing courses with clinical components. The potential ability to give safe nursing care is a prerequisite for admission to the nursing major. Part-time plans of study are also available.

Licensed practical nurses, because of their previous learning in other settings, are considered sophomore-level transfer students on entry into the university. Previously earned academic credits may be applied to the B.S.N.

The Department of Nursing offers an opportunity for registered nurses to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree. II. The Upper Division Nursing Program Requires:

A. Nursing Courses

Six courses in nursing are required. These courses are: NURS 310, 410, 415, 420, 435 and NURS 58/63IR. A grade of “C” or above must be attained in both theory and clinical components of all nursing courses, and a cumulative GPA of 2.5 maintained for progression in the program. Documentation of physical health status must be obtained prior to admission to the major and on file in the Health Office. Required immunizations must include hepatitis B vaccination, or a signed waiver; and an annual Mantoux test; and second MMR, if the studentwas born after 1957, and proof of varicella immunity.

Briar Cliff’s RN to BSN Program Features:
Beginning in fall 2008, the nursing courses in the RN-BSN program will be offered online.

A state-of-the-art-nursing curriculum that recognizes what you know and doesn’t repeat what you have already studied.

The nursing curriculum includes six nursing courses. The nursing courses focus on content that builds upon your previous nursing education and experience. These courses include content important to working with families experiencing complex health problems, community health issues, research, leadership, and a development of a theoretical basis for your nursing practice.
Flexible acceptance of transfer credits from other colleges.

Briar Cliff College automatically accepts 28 to 32 credits of nursing from the student’s basic nursing program. Students are required to take at least their last 30 credit hours from Briar Cliff. These 30 credits include 22 credits of nursing.

Financial aid for nurses who are working and cannot attend classes full time.

Over 70% of the students enrolled in the RN-BSN program receive financial aid. Financial aid may include scholarships, grants or loans. Additionally, Iowa residents attending Briar Cliff University may be eligible for the Iowa Tuition Grant. Eligible students can receive up to $4,000 per year!
