Practical Nursing from Brunswick Community College Tennessee

The Practical Nursing curriculum prepares individuals with the knowledge and skills to provide nursing care to children and adults.

Students will participate in assessment, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care.

Graduates are eligible to apply to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-PN) which is required for practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Employment opportunities include hospitals, rehabilitation/long term care/home health facilities, clinics, and physicians’ offices.

The Accelerated Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing Program (BSN) is a 15-month option for students who hold bachelor’s degrees or master’s degrees in fields other than nursing.
Requirements
Students are admitted to the Accelerated BSN option based on the following criteria:
A baccalaureate or higher degree from an accredited college or university.
Two letters of reference from individuals that can attest to the student’s motivation and ability to complete a course of intensive study; (3) Statement of career goals.
Description of the applicants view of nursing as a profession.
A personal interview.
Evidence of academic achievement of a 2.5 cumulative GPA or higher on a 4.0 scale on undergraduate degree.
Completion of prerequisite courses with a minimum of a C or better.
Evidence of potential and motivation for nursing.
Evidence of prior work success and/or ability to handle a fast-paced academic program.
Prerequisite course requirements
Chemistry - 2 credit hours (does not require a lab)
Nutrition or Diet Therapy - 3 credit hours
Microbiology - 4 to 5 credit hours (lab requirement)
Human Anatomy – 4 to 5 credit hours (lab requirement)
Physiology – 4 to 5 credit hours (lab requirement)
Pharmacology – 3 credit hours

Note: Prerequisite courses may be taken at any accredited college or university. Four out of the six required prerequisite courses must be successfully completed by the December preceding admission. Depending on the college or university, certain courses may be required as a prerequisite to these requirements.
