Practical Nurse Diploma Program educates you to enter one of the most highly respected and in demand careers in health care today. If you enjoy a challenge and have a desire to work in a dynamic environment a professional career in Practical Nursing is for you.

Practical Nurses work in an inter-professional practice health team assisting clients to meet their physical, emotional and psychological needs. As a member of the health care team you will provide, daily living activities, administer medications, provide medical treatment, perform assessments and create a safe, comfortable environment for their clients.

At Bow Valley College the Practical Nurse Diploma Program can be completed in just 17 months. Upon successful completion of the program and the Canadian Practical Nurse Registration Exam (CPNRE) you are eligible for licensure with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA).

The University of Rochester School of Nursing has been a leader in the nurse practitioner movement since its inception. Our former dean, Loretta C. Ford, RN, EdD, is considered the co-founder of the nurse practitioner model. We were the first to offer a formal Acute Care Nurse Practitioner program and our Pediatric Nurse Practitioner/Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner program is among the first of its kind in the country.

Our Nurse Practitioner programs are consistently ranked among the finest in the nation. In fact, our Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Program is ranked 10th in the nation in U.S. News & World Report Best Graduate School rankings.

Most of our students are practicing nurses who want to refine their skills and broaden their opportunities. All of them are committed professionals dedicated to providing the best possible care to patients. We have nurses who are fairly new to the profession and those with many years of experience.
