Midwifery Undergraduate at Katholieke Hogeschool
A midwife is considered as the specialist in the normal pregnancy and the normal delivery. She has become the professional in guiding the young parents and also the newborn through their first weeks.
Preventative measures, early detection of risks for the mother and the child, planning care by specialists and emergency actions are part of this responsibility. In the field of problematic reproduction she has a supporting and assisting role towards medical specialists.
The midwife has an important responsibility in health promotion regarding women, families and the community. She performs education sessions regarding human reproduction, guidance on the reproduction process and prepares for parenthood.
Legally, the midwife has medical authority in normal obstetrics and nursing authority in the pathological obstetrics, neonatology and reproductive medicine. Independently, and as a part of her responsibility she makes obstetrical diagnosis, supervises healthy pregnant women, performs normal deliveries, and cares for the mother and child in the normal postpartum.
At Kempen University College you can take the three-year Bachelor programme of Midwifery. After the Bachelor of Midwifery you can enrol in the Academic Master of Midwifery programme.
