The main purpose of the program is to provide a professional education for nurses who as future midwives will promote maternal and child health for the people of the West Bank and Gaza. The practice of midwifery draws upon nursing skills, specialist midwifery knowledge and practice skills, and has commonality with obstetrics and neonatology. The behavioral and social sciences, ethics and research are important aspects of the program. Professional accountability, maternal and child health promotion, management and teaching all receive emphasis.
This is a five semester (38 credit) program for part time students who have current experience in maternity services. To earn the diploma the student must achieve a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.00 in all courses, and master the objectives of each practicum. The curriculum consists of 7 courses and includes a six-month extended practicum in advanced labor care in the student’s base hospital.
Criteria for Admission:
Tawjihi 60% or above.
Three year Diploma or Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing.
At least two years of clinical experience.
Evidence of a commitment to the health and welfare of women in the local community
Satisfactory knowledge of English.
Passing the entrance exam which assesses academic ability.

While preference is given to West Virginia residents, qualified students from other states are encouraged to apply. To qualify for admission to the School of Nursing basic program, a candidate must have completed one year of the prescribed courses listed below. Applicants are eligible for review by the Admissions Committee after completion of one full semester of course work. The prescribed courses include:
BIOL 100 - 3 Hours
BIOL 101 - 4 Hours
CHEM 100 and CHEM 103 - 8 Hours
ENGL 101 and ENGL 102 - 6 Hours
NURS 110 - 3 Hours
PSYC 201 - 3 Hours
PSYC 250 - 3 Hours
SOCL - 3 Hours
These courses may be completed at Glenville State College or any accredited institution of higher education.
Application forms for the School of Nursing are available in the Nursing Office, Room 101, Science Hall at Glenville State College after December 1. Application for admission to the School of Nursing must be made by February 15 of the year the candidate wishes to be admitted. The applicant’s academic record is the major factor in the decision on admission. The West Virginia resident must have a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or above on a scale of 0.0 to 4.0 on all college work attempted, to qualify for consideration. Residents of other states must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or above on all college work attempted to be considered. West Virginia applicants whose grade point average falls between 2.3 and 2.5 may petition in writing to the Admissions Committee for special consideration. Out-of-state residents with a cumulative grade-point average less than 2.5 may petition in writing to the Admissions Committee for special consideration. Such a petition must be submitted along with the application and must clearly state why the applicant should receive special consideration.
The review of applicants takes approximately two months. The students are notified by mail after review of all applicants is completed. Two weeks after receipt of the letter of acceptance, the student must send a letter stating acceptance of the position to the Registar, Glenville State College, 200 High Street, Glenville, West Virginia 26351-1292.

The Castleton Honors Scholarship Program is open to eligible new full-time, first-year, matriculating students who enroll during the fall semester. Transfer students who have earned fewer than 12 credits with a cumulative college grade point average of 3.0 or higher are also eligible. Students in this program learn with similarly motivated students in an Honors First Year Seminar during the fall semester and in Honors Touchstones of Western Literature in the spring semester. In addition, honors scholars will also benefit from priority housing and registration during their first academic year.
Students who are admitted by March 1, 2009 will be awarded a scholarship based on the following eligibility criteria*:

Eligible students are awarded scholarship upon acceptance to the college. Students who choose to accept the scholarship and matriculate at Castleton will be expected to participate in the program. Scholarships are renewable for up to four years of continuous enrollment at Castleton without regard for need as long as the student maintains a 3.0/4.0 grade point average.
* Students must meet all eligibility criteria at the time of acceptance. GPA is calculated by Castleton Admissions using academic courses only on an unweighted 4.0 scale. Scholarships are awarded on a first come, first served basis to bachelor degree seeking students. Amounts are non-negotiable and may be used for tuition only.

Completion of a minimum of 128 semester hours of college work is required to complete the Bachelors of Science in Nursing Degree 62 credit hours of pre-requisite courses and 66 credit hours of nursing courses
Satisfactory completion of the Upper-Division Baccalaureate Nursing Degree program of study, 66 semester hours, with a minimum grade point average of 2.0 and a minimum grade of “C” in all nursing courses. All nursing course work is offered only at the Stormont-Vail Campus.
A minimum of 30 credit hours in the Upper-Division Nursing Program must be completed in the Baker University School of Nursing.

To apply for the next class beginning in August, please fill out this application packet and
return it to the Admissions Office by the May 31st deadline. Applicants will be
ranked for admission by awarding points based on the following:
• Cumulative Prerequisite and Extra point grade point average (GPA); this includes
your required courses along with the extra point courses.
• Performance on the ACT, COMPASS, OR ASSET and NET tests (assessment
tests); (online assessments assistance websites have been included in your
application packet.)
• Proof of current certifications in any of the following areas: Nurse Assistant,
Mental Health Tech, EMT and/or Paramedic.
• Submitting the essay questionnaire.
• Completion of extra point courses with grade of “C” or better by the application
deadline. (May 31st)
The applicant is responsible for submitting spring grades (if applicable) by the
application deadline. (May 31st)
In the case of a tie for the last slot, the student that turned in their application packet first
will receive the admission invitation. Your application will be dated and timed when you
submit it.

University Placement exams (COMPASS). “Scores” of Tier I Quantitative, English 151, and reading level of at least 80 are expected. A student may have an opportunity to repeat the exam once. Review courses in English, mathematics and/or reading may be necessary if scores fall below these standards. This exam is administered on the Zanesville campus by appointment in the Learning Advancement Center . Please call 588-1510 to set up an appointment.
The applicant must be a high school graduate or hold a certificate of High School Equivalency (GED). A high school graduate must have a grade point average of 3.0 out of a 4.0 scale.
If the applicant is a transfer or current OU student, they must have an established college grade point average of 2.75 or better out of a 4.0 scale is expected.
The applicant must have completed courses in algebra, biology and chemistry with a grade of “C” or better at the high school or college level.
The applicant must submit a “Statement of Education and Career Goals” (typed - no more than 500 words).
For admission information to Ohio University - Zanesville, go to the Admissions page. Admission to the Associate Degree Nursing Program is by a selective process. Admission to Ohio University does not guarantee admission to the nursing program. In addition to the requirements listed on the Admissions page, applicants to the nursing program must also complete the admission requirements to the Nursing program.

Submit an application to Ohio University Southern along with the $20 nonrefundable application fee.
Submit Official high school transcript or, if applicable, official GED scores.
Submit Official transcripts from all previous college courses and from all vocational or technical programs.
Submit to the nursing office a statement of educational and career goals/essay (typed - no more than 1 page). This is your opportunity to tell the selection committee why you want to be in the Nursing Program.
A high school 3.0 grade point average on a 4 point scale, or an established college grade point average of at least 2.75.
The applicant must have completed courses in algebra, biology and chemistry at the high school and/or college level with a minimum grade of “C” in each course before the deadline.
All students are required to take the COMPASS (placement test) exam before the deadline. Students have an opportunity to repeat the COMPASS examination once. “Scores/Placement” needed to satisfy admission requirements are:

Please Note: Admission to the Associate Degree Nursing Program is by a selective process. Admission to Ohio University does not guarantee admission to the nursing program. The selection process for the nursing program at the Zanesville, Chillicothe and Southern campuses are separate. Therefore, admission into the Southern Associate Degree Nursing Program does not guarantee admission into the Zanesville or Chillicothe programs or vice versa.

The ADN program has three major categories of required courses: (1) prerequisites, (2) general education requirements, and (3) nursing courses. Prerequisite courses include chemistry, biology and algebra at the high school or college level with a grade of “C” or better. Students are required to take the ACT compass placement test in the areas of Math, English and Reading. Students must test at the college level or take the required courses. Courses taken at other colleges will be evaluated for transfer credit. If the content is equivalent to the relevant Ohio University course and the earned grade is at least a “C” it may be transferred. Decisions about transfer credit will be made on a case-by-case basis. Students must have a minimum college GPA of 2.75 or better. All transfer GPA’s will be combined for review by the selection committee.
Admission to the ADN program is competitive. Scores on the required standardized test, grades in prerequisite courses, grade point average (GPA), and the individual’s statement of goals are used in making admission decisions. Admission to Ohio University does not guarantee admission to the ADN Program.
The following program outline illustrates a full-time schedule and assumes that all courses will be taken at Ohio University.
