Practical Nursing from Brunswick Community College Tennessee
The Practical Nursing curriculum prepares individuals with the knowledge and skills to provide nursing care to children and adults.
Students will participate in assessment, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care.
Graduates are eligible to apply to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-PN) which is required for practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Employment opportunities include hospitals, rehabilitation/long term care/home health facilities, clinics, and physicians’ offices.

THE COURSE
With the course, you will be able to plan and implement the health care of human beings throughout their life cycle, from conception to old age, a standalone or in a team of multidisciplinary work. You can still work in management, consulting and audit of health facilities in primary care (Family Health Program - FHP; Home Care - omiciliar assistance, health centers) in pre-hospital (SAMU, urgent and emergency) and hospital and in business (schools, kindergartens, industries), as well as teaching and research, among others.
WHAT YOU WILL STUDY
Since the first period, the subjects are structured so that you can hold, alternating theory and practice, through the lessons in the laboratory, both with field work, research, extension and / or placement in institutions with the arrangements, under the supervision of a teacher. This will allow you to know, act and change the picture of the reality of health as early as possible, training for the professional performance through the experience of practical experience.
FIELDS OF RESEARCH
Research is encouraged and is present in the course since the first period, with topics related to the content of basic or professional disciplines, the projects of extension and the daily business of the future.
HIGHLIGHTS OF THE COURSE
Extended Projects, developed from the early periods and involving educational, recreational, and humane care in various segments of society, including shares of consulting and learning. Partnerships with renowned health institutions to achieve the training mandatory and not mandatory. Gain the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to enter the health care system as a Practical Nurse and to write the Canadian Practical Nurse Registration Examination in Ontario. Develop knowledge, skills and judgement in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating nursing care for all age groups. Particular focus is placed on the ability to communicate in a caring and therapeutic manner.
The program consists of four levels. There is a strong emphasis on practical hands-on experience in a variety of health care settings. Practical experience moves from long term care, maternal-child, school-age, and retirement to medical, surgical, mental health and community environments. The program will conclude with a consolidated experience in a health care setting.
Learning occurs in a variety of settings and through a variety of delivery methods: the classroom, laboratory, simulation, various health facilities, online and independent study to name a few. Practical experiences may involve a variety of shifts and may include weekends. Clinical placements will take place in a variety of agencies throughout Renfrew County. Travel arrangements and any incurred costs are the responsibility of the student.

Nursing graduates are in health care workers responsible for the functions provided by the Ministerial Decree of the Ministry of Health 14 September 1994, No 739 and subsequent amendments thereto, or are responsible for general nursing. This nursing care, preventive, curative, palliative and rehabilitation, is a technical, relational, educational. Their main functions are the prevention of illness, care of the sick and disabled people of all ages and health education. The nursing graduates participate in the identification of health needs of the person and the community; identify the nursing needs of the individual and the community and make its goals, plan, manage and evaluate the nursing care intervention; ensure the proper implementation of diagnostic and therapeutic requirements, acting both individually and in collaboration with other health care professionals and social, using, where necessary, the work of support staff, carry out their professional activities in health facilities, public or private, in the territory and in ‘home care, under-employment, or free training; contribute to staff training and support directly related to updating their professional profile and research.
The percentage of vocational training provided in OF 2/02/2001 referred to the disciplinary field of science specific type of training, in accordance with the opinion of the National University Council with motion dell’adunanza of 3.07.2003.

The undergraduate Nursing Program provides for the preparation of professional nursing and leads to a bachelor of science in Nursing degree and eligibility to sit for the Registered Nurse licensing exam. The program aims to promote the development of professional nurse generalists through wholistic, goal-directed experiences in nursing education and nursing practice with the active participation of faculty and students in the fellowship of learning. Nursing is viewed as a wholistic approach to the process and practice of nursing as a healing ministry to meet the health needs of individuals, families, and groups in the community. This wholistic approach emphasizes the interrelationship of physical, social, psychological, intellectual, and spiritual well-being of persons from conception to death.
The Nursing Program provides a sound base of knowledge in the biological and social sciences. This strong academic foundation prepares the student to meet the challenge of professional nursing in today’s society. Clinical experience in medical, surgical, psychiatric, obstetrics, pediatrics, and community health are gained in a variety of health facilities in Ohio, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania. The student is prepared for graduate study and the professional role by intensified senior-level courses in nursing research, leadership, and advanced medical/surgical nursing.
The Department of Nursing curriculum is organized around the following framework:
Critical Thinking—An approach to nursing practice which reflects analytical methods, including observation, reflection, experience, reasoning, inquiry, and Christian maturity.
Therapeutic Nursing Intervention—The ability to provide theory-based psychomotor and psychosocial nursing actions according to professional standards which are designed to optimize the health of individuals, families, and groups.
