The primary objective of the program is to form a leading professional with a management focus, with solid scientific, technical, social, humanistic and ethical principles that will contribute to the elevation of the quality of life of a specific population in order to provide attention on an individual, familiar and communitarian level. The Nursing program of Universidad del Norte will prepare its student to:
Value the specific situation of the persona, through a systematic analysis of the environment that surrounds them, of its social behavior and of their physiological responses, to offer individualized attention.
Work in coordination with families and community in the identification and solution of health problems, and in evaluate the consequences of the actions produced by the subject in matter.
Coordinate all health actions on an individual, familiar and communitarian level, with other members of the nursing team and other professionals.
Manage individual attention required by a group of patients in any of the stages of the health-sickness process.
Promote inter-sector participation in work destined to improve of general life conditions of families and communities.
Promote the development of the profession and existing practices through active participation in professional organizations.
Execute clinical, epidemiological and social investigations oriented towards the increase of knowledge towards the human body and its health, its interaction with the environment and the improvement of services to the population.
Manage health programs that will contribute to the optimization of the services offered to the individual, the family and the community.
Apply values and ethical principles that will reflect the service and attention given by the nurse to the individual, family and community.
By the proper characteristics of their formation, the graduates of the program have capacity to evolve in the following areas, among others:
Hospital: In attention to people in services of internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics, OBYGN, intensive cares, neurology, and neurosurgery, psychiatry and geriatrics, etc.
Educational: Directing faculties or schools of infirmary or as infirmary aids and/or participating in the qualification of doctors, engineers and other professionals.
Communitarian: Designing, executing and directing programs of promotion and prevention of diseases to familiar and communitarian groups.
Industry: Coordinating programs of occupational health and/or executing actions in medicine, hygiene, and work safety.
Administrative: Managing health institutions in the public or private sectors and coordinating the functions of the infirmary team in the primary, secondary and tertiary level.

The study nurse SUP aims to train professionals who can provide a valuable contribution to the solution of health problems. Nurses are able not only to apply the knowledge gained in science, but also to understand the social dynamics related to the occupation.
Teaching
The main lessons are focused on biomedical disciplines such as anatomy, physiology and pathology of different systems and equipment, technical specifications and nursing as well as humanistic disciplines of breath, such as communication, ethics, psychology, anthropology . The training is structured in modules that combine classroom time with practical exercises. In three years there are 4 periods for a total of 42 weeks of clinical practice.
Prospects
Given the wide spectrum of possible situations of care, the nursing graduates may work in different social spheres. They engaged as employees or as freelancers.

Target Course
The course of Nursing is based on the principles of the Curriculum Guidelines set by the Ministry of Education, the challenges of the Unified Health System and the needs of market. The course uses the process of learning - learning for the construction of significant knowledge, including theoretical and practical aspects, general and specialized, care of individual and collective, private and public programs, assistance, management and research in nursing, to meet the main health problems of the Brazilian population. The hours of practical classes and training, developed along the course, allows the acquisition of ability to care, making the students begin their professionalism in academic life, before entering the labor market. Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Across the Lifespan Emphasis
The Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) emphasis is unique in its focus on providing care across the lifespan. The typical ACNP program focuses on adults; however, because the ACNP provide care in settings such as emergency rooms and intensive care areas, the preparation and focus of this program is for the graduate to be able to provide care to patients of any age. This is an intensive program in which the full-time student is expected to complete the coursework and clinical experiences in six semesters. A minimum of 4 contact hours to 1 credit hour or 660 hours of clinical practice will be required to prepare graduates to manage acute health problems for patients across the lifespan. Clinical experiences will be provided with preceptors in a variety of acute care and community settings, which are selected to allow students to work in milieu devoted to particular patient groups, levels of care, or treatment modalities in which they have a desire to specialize.
