The Practical Nursing curriculum prepares individuals with the knowledge and skills to provide nursing care to children and adults.

Students will participate in assessment, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care.

Associate Degree Nursing at Brunswick Community College Tennessee

The Associate Degree Nursing curriculum provides individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide nursing care to clients and groups of clients throughout the lifespan in a variety of settings.

Courses will include content related to the nurse’s role as provider of nursing care, as manager of care, as member of the discipline of nursing, and as a member of the interdisciplinary team.

The Castleton Nursing Department offers a major program leading to the Associate in Science in Nursing degree. Graduates are eligible for licensure as Registered Nurses and are qualified to function in a beginning level staff position in various health care agencies. Upon successful completion of the program, the student is eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nursing (NCLEX-RN). The program is approved by the Vermont State Board of Nursing and accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission.

In addition to the College’s general admission requirements, admission to the Associate in Science in Nursing program is selective and based on the following minimal criteria:
Combined Critical Reading and Math SAT scores of 1000 or above
Graduation from high school in the upper quarter of class
Evaluation of prior post-secondary course work
Meeting with the Nursing Chairperson

Challenge examinations are available to students applying for admission to the Nursing program. A student seeking to challenge nursing courses must be one of the following:

- A Licensed Practical Nurse with one year of employment in that role.
(A Licensed Practical Nurse without a year of employment may also challenge,
but only NUR 1211.)

- Student transferring from another A.S.N. program or its equivalent.

Successful challenge of both NUR1211 and NUR1212 could enable a student to enter the nursing program in the fall semester of the second year, provided all prerequisites are met. (NOTE: A minimum of 21 semester hours in nursing must be earned at Castleton.) The nursing curriculum can be completed in two years. All nursing courses and BIO2011 and BIO 2012 and BIO2125 must be passed with a grade of “C” or better.

The Castleton Nursing Program has historically enjoyed an excellent passage rate on the NCLEX-RN.

The two-year associate’s degree program in nursing combines coursework and clinical experience to prepare you for licensure as a Registered Nurse (R.N.) as you earn an Associate in Applied Science degree. It can also qualify you for admission to our bachelor’s degree program in nursing, in which you can earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.S.N.) with an additional two years of study.

OU-Zanesville’s A.A.S program in nursing has an established reputation for graduating well prepared nurses. Graduates work in a variety of settings, including nursing homes, home health agencies as well as clinics, doctor’s offices, and hospitals.

The program is fully approved by the Ohio Board of Nursing and accredited by the National League of Nursing. After graduation, you are eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination for R.N. licensure.

In September 2007 the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission, Inc. ( NLNAC ) New York, NY notified the Ohio University School of Nursing that they have received a continuing accreditation for 8 years.

Upon completion of the associate degree, the graduate is prepared to take the National Council Licensure Examination which leads to licensure as a Registered Nurse. Graduates of the associate degree program may choose to enter the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program for two additional years of more advanced education. The Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree Program is also offered on the Southern Campus.

The Campus
Ohio University-Southern is a Regional Campus of Ohio University ( Athens ) offering predominantly the first two years of general studies and including eleven associate degree technologies, selected upper division and graduate courses, and non-credit adult and continuing education courses. Approximately 1900 students are enrolled on this campus.

Nursing classes include campus and clinical laboratory hours. Students are required to drive to a variety of clinical agencies to complete the clinical component of the nursing courses. Students are expected to drive to either campus for classes according to the class schedule.
Students may be assigned to a morning, afternoon, or evening clinical anywhere in the tri-county area. Clinicals may range from four to eight hours per clinical day.
Practical Nurse (PN) Exit option–Students successfully completing the first three semesters are eligible to apply for the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-PN) and for licensure as a PN.
ADN Progression–Students may apply for NCLEX-PN after three semesters and continue on in the program to complete the last two semesters. Students successfully completing all semesters are eligible to apply for licensure as a registered nurse (RN) and for NCLEX-RN.

The Associate of Science in Nursing Program curriculum is a two-year program of seven consecutive semesters. Students enroll in the Nursing Track as a Health Science major in June of the first year and after successful completion of the prerequisite courses, progress to nursing courses in May of the second year.

The Associate of Science in Nursing program is approved by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing and prepares the student for the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) and to assume entry level positions traditionally found in hospitals, nursing homes, rehabilitation facilities, ambulatory care centers, and doctors’ offices.
