NURS 131 First Aid and Personal Safety (Cr. 3)

Designed to provide the student with the principles and skills necessary to help victims of accidents, emergencies, and disaster situations. It includes measures to be taken to ensure personal safety, thus leading to accident prevention in the home and community. This is a practical course, part of which will be devoted to mastering first-aid skills.

NURS 200 Introduction to Nursing (Cr. 3)

This course is designed to provide the student with various health and nursing concepts. It also provides the student with a wide body of knowledge of the principles governing health maintenance and promotion, as well as illness prevention.

NURS 205 Pathophysiology (Cr. 2)

The course helps the students to develop an awareness of the importance of current child and infant care. It will stress the health problems of the infant and child and the nursing care necessary in restoring health to the child. The course will include the study of process in children family problems, and the tools that will be effective in helping the child and family attain realistic goals. These courses present an integrated approach to the study of health and illness. Examination is made of all that occurs when various disease-causing processes exert their effect on physiological functions. It is designed to give a broad general background in the care of adults who have medical and surgical problems. Emphasis is placed upon the nursing intervention involved in the maintenance and restoration of physiological equilibrium. Prerequisite: NURS 252

THE COURSE
The course as a nurse generalist, able to develop actions in the promotion, prevention, protection and rehabilitation of health, individual and collective. With the course, you can understand the man in full size and the complexity of life, since it took the principles of the Unified Health System as a new model for guiding the production of health services, seeking to understand the role of nurses in the health of the country

WHAT YOU WILL STUDY

The course integrates theory and practice, using a learning experience focusing on solution of real problems, from the understanding of social reality, political and health of the country and the vision of man in its entirety. Enhances the formation of humanistic and social students. Besides supervised in various health institutions, the course provides for extension and research activities.

FIELDS OF RESEARCH
Students develop throughout the course, research activities in groups in interdisciplinary work, with the object of study identified problems in the social environment. Present at the end of the course, work on research papers, such intervention in the care of nursing practice, teaching-oriented individual, subject to the examination committee at the Seminar of Completion of Course. Research reports are produced and are sent and accepted by the scientific journals in the area of health for publication. In addition, the course develops research projects funded by the PUC Minas / FIP. It has two courses of specialization: the Course of Specialization in Systematization of nursing care in Primary Care and Management of Local and District Health, with emphasis on family health.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE COURSE

The course is part of the Pole Permanent Education for SUS. PROSAÚDE also participates in the Project, the result of partnership between the Ministries of Health and Education, the UN and UNESCO, which
enables school health initiatives included the SUS.

The Associate Degree Nursing program is a concentrated two-year program that includes a combination of science, liberal arts,and focused nursing courses.
