MSc Nursing at RCSI Medical University of Bahrain

This post graduate education programme is suitable for nurses from all clinical backgrounds, including general hospital, psychiatric and community nursing, education and management. The design of the programme provides opportunities for nurses to undertake education to enhance both personal and professional development. Similar to the RCSI MSc Nursing in Ireland, the programme will be delivered part-time over two years. A student may decide not to proceed to year 2 of the programme and if, successful in all examination requirements in year 1, may exit with a postgraduate Diploma in Nursing Theory.

Programme Aims
Provide students with the necessary knowledge to critically appraise and apply research
methodologies to nursing questions and problems.
Develop student’s ability to critically examine assumptions and to question values, beliefs and policies underpinning nursing and healthcare, at individual and organisational level.
Develop students as reflective practitioners with the skills, confidence and awareness necessary to identify, influence, implement and evaluate evidence-based practice.

Programme Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of the programme students will be able to:
Develop a systemic understanding and critical awareness of current challenges and/or new insights at the forefront of nursing and health.
Take responsibility to develop a research proposal and undertake a supervised research dissertation on an area appropriate to their area of nursing practice.
Critically evaluate the cultural environment in which healthcare is delivered and engage in critical discussion on key contemporary discourses in nursing and health.
Critically self evaluate their professional and personal learning needs consistent with their area of practice and their continuing professional development.

Throughout the programme the student is expected to apply all assessment and course work to their own area of clinical practice. This ensures integration of theory and practice and makes this programme relevant to the practice of nursing, patient care and the health services.
