Nursing Bachelor of Science Degree Major at Russel Sage College New York

As 21st century health care evolves and changes, the role of the registered nurse has taken on new importance. Nurses are the face of health care for millions of patients each year. They not only treat the sick, but serve as crucial links to health care institutions for family and loved ones. And they engage in the important work of keeping people healthy through preventive medicine.

Sage offers the only 4-year nursing program in the Capital District and students get first choice of internships. Sages program meets the state requirements of all 50 states.

The Baccalaureate Program admits students who are preparing for the initial licensure examination (NCLEX-RN). The Baccalaureate Program is available through Russell Sage College on a full-time or part-time basis. Transfer students are accepted into the basic program prior to the junior year. There is a minimum of five semesters of nursing courses in this program (may include some summer session courses).

A total of 120 credits are required for the B.S. degree at The Sage Colleges. Forty-five credits need to be taken at The Sage Colleges. Sixty credits in the Arts and Sciences are required including the general education requirements of Russell Sage Colleges (36 credits). The nursing major includes 54 nursing credits and 27 credits of required support courses for the B.S. degree.

The sequence of nursing courses requires five to six semesters of study. Transfer students receive an analysis of their prior course work and establish a planned sequence for the remaining course in the curriculum. Courses may be offered in varied schedules including day, evening, institute format, as well as some summer session courses.

Admission Graduate Nursing at Coppin State College

Application and supporting documents for the Master’s and Post-Master’s programs must be received by the Office of Admissions by May 30th for Fall semester (contact department for more information).

The FNP program admits students to the Fall term only. All applicants must submit the following materials:

Complete the Coppin State University Graduate Division Application for Admission, pay the required application fee, and submit three (3) letters of recommendation to the Office of Admissions.
Complete the Coppin State University Helene Fuld School of Nursing Application for Admission to Graduate Nursing Studies indicating which program you are applying to and send photocopies of the same three (3) letters of recommendation you forwarded to the Office of Admissions Graduate Division, to the Helene Fuld School of Nursing.
Official transcripts from each college and university you attend should be sent to both the Office of Admissions and the Helene Fuld School of Nursing.
A photocopy of current licensure for practice of Nursing should be sent to the Helene Fuld School of Nursing only.
A typewritten statement of goals and objectives (Statement of Intent as described on the Coppin State University Helene Fuld School of Nursing Application for Admission to Graduate Nursing Studies) should be sent to the Helene Fuld School of Nursing only.
International applicants must submit an official testing of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score report to the Office of Admissions. Minimum acceptable score is 550. (Contact department for more information.)
Proof of satisfactory completion of a course in elementary statistics and/or nursing research.
Official record of results of the aptitude portion of the GRE sent directly to the Office of Admissions and the Helene Fuld School of Nursing. (GRE is one of the criteria for admission evaluation.)
Proof of satisfactory completion of a course in physical assessment in last five years or passed a challenge exam.

Description of Programs of Study Leading to a BS

The Byrdine F. Lewis School of Nursing was originally established as a Department of Nursing. The Georgia Board of Regents approved the Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1966, the Master’s degree in Nursing in 1973, and the PhD in Nursing in 1986. The nearly 500 students and 40 faculty members of the school contribute to the University through highly competitive programs of study, family and community-centered involvement and scholarship that advances health care.

BS in Nursing Degree programs include:
Traditional Bachelor of Science with a major in Nursing
The traditional program is for undergraduate students who are seeking a B.S. with a major in nursing.
ACE Bachelor of Science with a major in Nursing
The ACE (Achieving the Curriculum Expeditiously) program is for students who have completed all undergraduate core course work, are committed to full-time academic work and who want a fast-paced, rigorous course of study.
Transfer Track
The transfer program allows students transferring from other nursing programs, to apply for transfer into the traditional or accelerated program at Georgia State University. DO NOT USE THIS APPLICATION IF YOU HAVE NOT YET TAKEN NURSING COURSES. All courses must be indivdually evaluated to determine appropriateness for transfer.
R.N. to B.S.
The RN-BS Bridge program is specially designed for students who have practiced as a licensed R.N., have an associate’s degree or nursing diploma, and wish to obtain a B.S. in Nursing. THIS PROGRAM ADMITS STUDENTS EVERY OTHER YEAR.
