Why are nurses in such demand?
The explosion of knowledge and opportunities is at an all time high. The science of health care has expanded phenomenally in the past five years. The economic changes in health care impact nursing in several ways. Patients are in the hospital for increasingly complex diagnostic and treatment procedures. These factors mean that more nurses are needed. More nurses are also needed to work with patients outside the hospital setting. Nurses have important work in schools, clinics, public health agencies and other setting to prevent illness before they occur or assist patients and families after a hospitalization. Nurses with master’s degrees such as nurse practitioners and clinical nurse specialists have been demonstrated to provide high quality and cost effective health care. These nurses are also in great demand.

Nursing Department at Crown College Minnesota

The mission of the Crown College Nursing Department is to provide a strong, biblically based nursing education for the purpose of preparing Christian men and women for service to the community, the church at large, and the world. Building upon the history of missionary nursing at Crown College and The Christian and Missionary Alliance, this new program seeks to prepare competent nursing professionals who can practice Christian caring in a variety of cultures around the world.

Courses in the nursing program require students to spend substantial time in off-campus clinical settings such as hospitals, clinics and public health agencies. Crown’s state-of-the-art nursing lab gives students the chance to sharpen their skills with the most up-to-date tools prior to heading into the field. Additionally, through online assignments and discussions, nursing students learn to collaborate and have increased access to learning resources.

Nursing LPN ADN at Danville Area Community College

The Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) is granted to those students
who successfully complete a career curriculum in Nursing. The graduate
of Level I of this Program is qualified to write the Licensure Exam
for Practical Nursing (NCLEX-PN). The Graduate of Level II of this
Program is qualified to write the Licensure Exam for Registered Nursing
(NCLEX-RN). The Program is approved by the Illinois Articulation
Initiative (IAI), and thus, courses will be accepted toward fulfillment of
specified baccalaureate degree requirements (BSN) by many colleges
and universities.
Registered Nurses (RN) provide direct care and meet complex health
needs of individuals and families in hospital and community-based
settings. The RN makes collaborative nursing assessments with other
health care professionals, acts as a health educator and client advocate,
and provides leadership by making responsible, ethical decisions. The
RN can administer medications and treatments as prescribed by a
physician, nurse practitioner, or other practitioner as defined by law.

Job/Employment Information:
Positions You are Educated for: Hospitals and Physicians’ offices employ
many Registered Nurses. They may also work in surgical centers,
clinics, home health care agencies, public health agencies, substance
abuse centers, schools, industries, and nursing homes. Full-time or parttime
work is typically available. Registered Nurses have also been
employed in other health-related areas by dentists, blood banks, weight
loss centers, children’s camps, fitness centers, or governmental agencies.

Nursing Requirements for Graduation at Gustavus Adolphus College

Students must meet all College requirements for graduation, as well as complete nine prerequisite courses, one supporting course in ethics, and 11 upper division nursing courses. The required courses are NUR-302, NUR-304, NUR-306, NUR-308, NUR-336

(2 course value), NUR-338, NUR-386, NUR-388, NUR-392, NUR-397.

Supporting Courses

A course in ethics must be completed before graduation. Students should consult with their adviser to determine what courses meet this requirement.

International Education

Nursing students at Gustavus can participate in January Interim study abroad programs. Participants in international education may need to plan additional time to complete all requirements for the Nursing major.

Concurrent Majors

Students may choose to earn a double major at Gustavus in Nursing and another discipline, but additional time may be necessary for this choice.

Students who have already earned a Gustavus degree are eligible to earn a second major in Nursing. Students should consult with the department chair to determine prerequisite courses needed prior to beginning the nursing courses and such students will need to follow the admission to the major process.

Placement

Graduates are qualified to work in hospitals, public health agencies, and clinics, to give high quality nursing care to patients, families, and communities, and to supervise the nursing care given by others. They have a solid foundation for graduate study in master’s and doctoral nursing programs which can prepare them for advanced nursing practice, education, administration, and research.

Nursing Degrees at Erie Community College

Recent advances in science, medicine and technology have resulted in new responsibilities and new requirements for today’s registered nurses. Nurses are essential members of the health care team, qualified to give client-centered, competent nursing care. Nurses today, dealing with people living in a complex, dynamic society, are concerned with the whole person - mind, body and soul.

This curriculum combines nursing and general education courses with selected laboratory experiences, during which students provide nursing care to clients in hospitals and other health care facilities. Nursing courses cover medical/surgical, obstetrics/gynecology, pediatrics and psychiatric nursing, utilizing current technologies. The nursing specific classes are complemented with studies in anatomy, physiology, microbiology, pharmacology, psychology, sociology, English composition and literature. Although the Nursing curriculum is designed to be completed in two academic years, students may take a longer time to fulfill their degree requirements, depending on individual circumstances.

Graduates find employment as registered nurses in hospitals, public health agencies, nursing homes, extended care facilities, home health care agencies, government health agencies, schools, military, law offices and other health care facilities.

Elmhurst graduates have an outstanding success rate with the national licensure examination, and virtually all of our graduates obtain jobs before graduation.
