R N to B S Program at Adelphi University New York

Registered nurses have the option of enrolling in ASCEND, the one-day per week R.N. to B.S. program. Designed to accommodate the schedules of working nurses, the program allows nurses to attend classes only one day each week. Both full-time and part-time students are eligible to enter this program.

The program also provides an easy transition into the graduate nursing program. Students may take undergraduate courses at the graduate level. Following the completion of the R.N. to B.S. program, students must apply for graduation. They may then apply for admission to one of the several Master of Science programs. Students in the ASCEND program follow a set plan of study to meet the degree requirements

Nursing Admission Detail at Long Island University

Bachelor of Science Program in Nursing

Applicants for admission to the C.W. Post Campus as nursing majors are required to be licensed Registered Nurses. However, applicants who have taken but have not received notification of having passed the NCLEX exam, may be admitted to C.W. Post as limited matriculants. Candidates for admission are required to have an overall GPA of 2.5.

Master of Science Programs in Family Nurse Practitioner and Advanced Practice Nursing: Clinical Nurse Specialist

In order to be considered for admission, students must have: a current New York State Registered Nurse license; at least two years of recent clinical experience; and a B.S. degree with a major in nursing from an accredited School of Nursing with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Applicants with non-nursing Bachelor’s degrees will be considered. The Department of Nursing recommends an undergraduate research course or workshop prior to taking the graduate research course. The pre-requisite course for the CNS and FNP programs is an undergraduate physical assessment course or workshop, which is required prior to taking the graduate advanced health assessment course. All candidates for admission will have a personal interview with faculty.

Master of Science in Nursing Education

In order to be considered for admission to the Master of Science in Nursing Education program, applicants need a current New York State Registered Nurse license and a B.S. degree with a major in nursing from an accredited nursing program with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Applicants with non-nursing Bachelor’s degrees will be considered. There is one recommended course for the master’s program. The Department of Nursing recommends an undergraduate research course or workshop prior to taking the graduate research course. All candidates for admission will have a personal interview with faculty.

Advanced Certificate in Family Nurse Practitioner

Candidates for the post-master’s Advanced Certificate in Family Nurse Practitioner program must possess a master’s degree in nursing from an accredited school of Nursing with a G.P.A. of 3.0. In addition, candidates must present requisite coursework in advanced physiology and pathphysiology and advanced physical assessment. This coursework may also be completed at C.W. Post. Qualified candidates may challenge from 3 to 11 credits for advanced standing in the program through the presentation of acceptable courses from an accredited school of nursing taken within the last five years.

Advanced Certificate in Nursing Education

In order to be considered for admission to the 21-credit post-master’s Advanced Certificate in Nursing Education, applicants need a current New York State Registered Nurse license and a master’s degree in nursing from an accredited nursing program with a minimum GPA of 3.0.
